Frequently Asked Questions
What is PDR?
Paintless Dent Repair, commonly referred to as PDR, is the most preferred, fastest, and least invasive method for removing door dings and dents from your vehicle without body filler, or repainting. PDR is a specialized repair process designed to gain access behind the damaged panel. Pressure is applied to the panel backside, while meticulously manipulating and reforming the metal back into position. PDR is the first-choice solution for ding and dent repair without jeopardizing the factory finish, risking mismatched paint color, paint overspray, or uneven paint texture. It's also a cost-effective, quick, and environmentally friendly repair solution. It's estimated that 80 to 90 percent of small dings and dents can be repaired using PDR.
How long does PDR take?
Depending on the complexity and scope of the repair, common door dings can take an hour to a few hours or more. A simple ding might be removed in less than an hour, but larger more complicated dents can take more than an hour to fully repair. A severely damaged car may take a day or more to remove all of the dents.
How much does PDR cost?
Starting at 75 for dings under 2 inches and 200 for dents over 2 inches, PDR is typically less than one-third the cost of traditional auto body repair process that involves straightening, filling, sanding and repainting damaged areas. Various factors contribute to the final amount, including the depth and size of the dent, access to the damaged area, and panel material. Each dent tells a different story, which needs a unique and skilled approach to resolve. The amount reflects the complexity of the task, and the skill required to restore your car to its original state.
Is PDR better than repainting?
Repainting a factory finish can devalue your vehicle. If panels are also replaced, often with non-OEM panels, further devaluation occurs. PDR returns immediate value to your vehicle, without having to fully disassemble the vehicle for paint work. This also makes it an environmentally friendly repair solution. PDR is a safe technique for both technicians and the environment, as it involves no chemicals, toxins or paint fumes.
Is PDR non-invasive?
Compared to a traditional repair, PDR is the most efficient and least invasive method of repairing your vehicle. Less disassembly, no filler, no paint, fewer parts. Sometimes the PDR process involves gaining access to the backside of the dent. This can involve removing components such as taillights or interior paneling. Sometimes, tools can be inserted between side windows and the outer door skin. Occasionally, the only means of repair is to create a manufactured access point in a door jamb or other commonly hidden area. The access point is corrosion protected and sealed afterward.
Do you report to CARFAX?
Ding and Dent PDR does not report to CARFAX. However, when your vehicle goes through the claim process and is repaired at a body shop, that repair is reported to CARFAX. A smart buyer who sees this on your vehicle history report may suspect your vehicle has been in an accident, which can jeopardize the sale of your vehicle and reduce the resale value.
What's your satisfaction guarantee?
Ding and Dent PDR offers a satisfaction guarantee at the completion of repairs. I'll make it right before I leave. If necessary, this could result in no charge being applied. A key factor in determining a dent’s repairability is its location, and few repairs are completely undetectable. Many body panels have reinforcing structures or window and lock mechanisms behind them that limit access to certain areas. In some cases, only 80 to 99 percent of a dent may be removable. This level of repair is often acceptable, and the remaining imperfections are typically unnoticeable to people without trained eyes.
